Abstract :
The removal of inorganic contaminants by plants is termed phytoextraction. Recent studies have looked at the feasibility of phytoextraction, and demonstrate that both good biomass yields and metal hyperaccumulation are required to make the process efficient. Adding chelating agents to soils to increase the bioavailability of contaminants can sometimes induce hyperaccumulation in normal plants, but may produce undersirable environmental risks. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the mechanisms responsible for hyperaccumulation, using natural hyperaccumulators as model plant species. Recent advances have been made in understanding the mechanisms responsible for hyperaccumulation Zn, Cd, Ni and As by plants. Attempts to engineer metal tolerance and accumulation have so far been limited to Hg, As and Cd, and although promising results have been obtained they may be some way from practical application. More fundamental understanding of the traits and mechanisms involved in hyperaccumulation are needed so that phytoextraction can be optimised.

Abstract :
Process integration is a holistic approach to process design and operation which emphasizes the unity of the process. Process integration design tools have developed over the past two decades to achieve process improvement, productivity enhancement, conservation in mass and energy resources, and reductions in the operating and capital costs of chemical processes. The primary applications of these integrated tools have focused on resource conservation, pollution prevention and energy management. Specifically, the past two decades have seen the development and/or application of process integration design tools for heat exchange networks (HENs), wastewater reduction and water conservation networks,mass exchange networks (MENs), heat- and energy-induced separation networks (HISENs and EISENs), waste interception networks (WINs) and heat- and energy-induced waste minimization networks (HIWAMINs and EIWAMINs), to name a few. This paper provides an overview of some of these developments and outlines major driving forces and hurdles. The fundamental aspects of this approach along with their incorporation in an overall design methodology will be discussed. The paper also highlights several recent applications of process integration to industrial processes.

Abstract :
Gate-to-gate process energy for 86 chemical manufacturing processes is presented. The estimation of the process energy follows design-based methodology. Results show that the gate-to-gate process energy for half of organic chemicals ranges from 0 to 4 MJ per kg, and for half of inorganic chemicals ranges from –1 to 3 MJ per kg. The main energy source in both organic and inorganic processes is steam energy followed by potential recovered energy. In organic chemicals, the fractions of heating oil and electricity use are relatively low, but these fractions are higher in the inorganic chemicals than in the organic chemicals. Furthermore, about 50% of the energy consumed in chemical processes is used for purifying the product, byproduct or recycled stream, which indicates that there are large opportunities for improving the process energy in chemical processes. The information presented in this study is very important for those in the life cycle assessment community in order for them to identify inaccurate information or information not based on actual process design. However, the range for the entire range of chemicals is very substantial and thus reflects the need of the life cycle inventory to separately evaluate the chemistry and degree of purity for chemical products.

Abstract :
Pollutant biodegradation in the environment occurs in the context of various interactions among microorganisms. To understand this ecological process, identification of functionally important population is condidered to be the primary step, which can be followed by isolation and laboratory pure-culture studies of the important organisms. Laboratory studies can then proceed to the analysis of in situ activity and interations with other organisms. Such studies will shape a deeper understanding of the ecology of pollutant degradation and facilitate the development of new bioremediation strategies.

Recent research on biosystems at the nanoscale has created one of the most dynamic science and technology domains at the confluence of physical science, molecular engineering, biology, biotechnology and medicine. This domain includes better understanding of living and thinking systems, revolutionary biotechnology processes, the synthesis of new drugs and their targeted delivery, regenerative medicine, neuromorphic engineering and developing a sustainable environment. Nanobiosystems research is a priority in many countries and its relevance within nanotechnology is expected to increase in the future.

Abstract :
Copper peptides are used in skin care and hair care products as a key of growth factor. It can restore skin to yonger state without causing skin irritation, improve the post-treatment skin recovery after dermatological skin renewal procedures, scarless healing after surgical incision and removal of skin lesions. Glycyl-1-histidyl-1-lysine:copper (II) or GHK-Cu is a copper peptide complex that has a role for skin renewal, degradation of existing collagen and synthesis of new collagen, increasing of epidermis and dermis, and skin elasticity, and reducing of wrinkles. However, GHK-Cu failed in clinical trial conducted by U.S. FDA on the healing of indolent wounds and it also lack of adhesion to the skin surface. So there are development of second-generation copper peptides, soy protein chelated to copper (II). There are no toxicity problem from safety test but there are report of increased supplementation with copper in nutritional studies.

Abstract :
Freshness is an important palatability characteristic of rice grains. However, this characteristic deteriorates rapidly during dry storage. In the present study we have developed an indirect method to examine the freshness of rice grains harvested in different crop seasons or stored under conditions known to accelerate deterioration. Bulk samples of intact brown rice grains were soaked in dianisidine solution containing guaiacol and H2O2 , and the optical absorbance of the incubation solution was determined colorimetrically. Alternatively, intact brown rice grains were incubated in a similar solution in the wells of a 96-well microplate, with one grain per well, and the optical absorbance of the incubation solution was measured by a microplate reader. The results indicated that cultivar, storage duration and temperature significantly affected the activities of grain peroxidase. Marked differences in the development of purple colour in the incubation solutions and in vitro peroxidase activity were also found among the brown rice grains sampled in different seasons. The changes in colour of the incubation solutions measured by either of the above methods paralleled the changes in grain activity of peroxidase assayed using an in vitro method. The proposed method can differentiate brown rice grains harvested in different seasons. Moreover, this method, if combined with suitable statistical clustering procedures, can detect the blending status of fresh/old brown grains in a sample. The advantages of this test method using A385 over the conventional enzyme activity assay are the rapidity and simplicity with which A385 can estimate the in vitro determination of peroxidase activity of tested rice grains.

The fuel and oil resistance of polymer depend on the solubility of the fuel or oil in the polymer. The solubility of polymer in solvent (composite of most fuels) is determined through solubility parameter estimation equation. It is rely on chemical structure, crystallinity and the pressence of crosslinks. The vapor permeation of fuel in automobiles is restricted by EPA’s standard on evaporative emissions for unburned hydrocarbons. The permeation resistance is also dependent upon the polymer structure, crystallinity and is related to the solubility. The study about relationship of chemical structure–oil swelling, and oil swelling–cost and permeation rate are included.

Zoonutrients are those components uniquely present in animal tissues that consumed by other animal as food and that provide nutritional benefits beyond the provision of colories, exclude essential nutrients that cannot be synthesized by animals such as some kinds of vitamins and minerals. Zoonutrient is providing novel targets for scientific research and new molecular strategies to develop innovative foods. The modern diet and health research goals are to promote optional metabolic regulation, metabolic imprinting and hazard protection from pathogens, toxins, and stresses. The structures and functions of the macromolecules and polymers formed from basic building blocks of foods (amino acids, peptides, proteins, oligosaccharides, polysaccharides, fatty acids, phospholipids and glycolipids) are studied how molecular structures have evolved to provide nutritional functions in animals. This article has emphasized the properties of zoonutrient components of the diet for their health-promoting properties and future research directions.

Abstract :
Recent findings of a potential human carcinogen, acrylamide, in foods have focused research on the possible mechanisms of formation. We present a mechanism for the formation of acrylamide from the reaction of the amino acid asparagine and a carbonyl-containing compound at typical cooking temperatures. The mechanism involves formation of a Schiff base followed by decarboxylation and elimination of either ammonia or a substituted imine under heat to yield acrylamide. Isotope substitution studies and mass spectrometric analysis of heated model systems confirm the presence of key reaction intermediates. Further confirmation of this mechanism is accomplished through selective removal of asparagine with asparaginase that results in a reduced level of acrylamide in a selected heated food.
